The feature layer enrichment involved combining the layer link’s attributes to the map feature layer associated with it. This enhances the map feature layer with the additional third party data to create a richer and comprehensive feature layer, making it possible for user to apply styling or symbology on map using the enriched data.
This article describes step-by-step guide for enabling and generating the feature layer enrichment to your ArcGIS portal.
Step 1: Enable the feature layer enrichment for your organisation.
First, you will need to enable the feature for your organisation’s ArcGIS portal. Navigate to the settings in the Geovonic Connect admin portal. Toggle the switch to “Enable” the feature and a set of Client ID and Client Secret will be auto-generated and created for you. The is where you can manage all your users’ Client IDs and secrets.
Step 2: Generate the feature layer enrichment of the desired layer link
- In the Layer links menu, select and edit the desired layer link page to enable the feature layer enrichment.
- At the bottom of the page, switch the feature layer enrichment toggle to enable it and this will initiate the generation of the feature service of the layer link. Then, you are given few options to start using the layer.
- First, click the “+Add feature layer to portal” to auto-generate a map with the layer added into your ArcGIS portal. You may click “View Portal” in the toast message bar once it’s ready, to bring you to the web map you just created, or
- You may copy over the URL of the feature layer to add the layer in a map manually or click the “Open in ArcGIS web map” to bring you to the Map Viewer to view the layer in your ArcGIS portal.
Notes:
- Since this is a secured feature service, you’ll require a credential to view or use the layer. You can manage the credentials used for the feature layer, it is placed just below the feature layer enrichment box. The credential for the “+Add feature layer to portal” will be automatically generated. Otherwise, you may use the “Add new credentials” as and when needed, please take note that the password will only be displayed once.
- The feature layer enrichment of a layer link can only be enabled or generated when the owner of the map layer has granted Geovonic Connect access by registering Client ID and secret of the user. If you are the owner of the map layer and haven’t registered, the Client ID and secret will be automatically generated on your first-time enabling a feature layer enrichment. However, if you are not the owner, you will need to get the owner to create one so that you can register the credentials to the portal manually.
Step 3: The feature enrichment layer.
You can find the new layer has been added as either a feature layer or in a web map in your ArcGIS portal. You may inspect the data of the layer to verify that it has now enriched with the additional attributes that you’ve configured to the layer link.
You may begin creating maps with the enriched feature layer in Map Viewer or Map Viewer classic. Edit your maps by applying label, symbology and styling using the enriched attributes or create an arcade expression as a new field or display it in the Pop-up. “Filter” is not supported yet.
The feature layer enrichment is still in Beta phase, you might encountered some issue while loading the relevant layer. Feel free to contact support team if you need any further assistance at support@geovonic.com.
